The Bus Story

Created by Paul 6 years ago

This is a story from many years ago, when we all lived with my mum and dad.

Mary had returned from work one evening (Admap, I think), seemingly fuming at the injustice of life, and explained what had happened on the bus on the way home. While she was sitting on the bus, a random stranger boarded and approached her, insisting the she was in his seat. Ignoring him seemed futile as he was very insistent, but Mary held her ground and refused to budge. After all, she reasoned, the bus itself was half-empty.

A heated argument ensued, with passengers taking sides in the debate: some agreeing that Mary was in the right and others sympathising with the stranger, who claimed that he had sat in the same seat on the bus for the past two years without fail.

Eventually, an inspector was called to sort out the impasse, but still it proved insoluble: the furious argument was now reaching mob proportions.

Here, she broke off the story, until we, her assembled audience, almost burst with the obvious question: "What on earth happened in the end?"

"Well, I moved." said Mary "I told them I didn't want to drive the bloody bus anyway."
